Institut des Forets -IDEFOR-, is in charge of agronomic research in forest zones of Cote d'Ivoire. IDEFOR is composed of five departments and the Departement des Fruits et Agrumes -DFA- or Fruits and Citrus Department is one of these. Others Department into IDEFOR are in charge of Cocoa tree, Coffee tree, Palm tree, Coconut palm, Rubber tree and forestry problems. DFA leads researches on banana plantain, pineapple, mangosteen, avocado, mango, papaya and so on.
Stations
DFA has three stations:
- Anguededou (25 Km from Abidjan)
- Azaguié (50 Km from Abidjan)
- Lataha, near Korhogo and 640 Km from Abidjan, North of the country
Activities
The activities of DFA cover:
- breading of pineapple to improve quality for export
- research to fight against pests and diseases
- post-harvest studies (banana plantain, mango, mangosteen,...)
- prospecting and behavior of many fruits
- councillor to actors of fruits channels
Areas of Study
The study areas of DFA include:
- physiological problems
- post-harvest aspects (field and laboratory):
- growing of fruits
- harvesting stages
- quality and green life
- quality after storage
